About Air Velocity Calibration

Air velocity measurement devices are typically calibrated by comparing to a laser anemometer in a reproducible, homogeneous wind tunnel flow. The accredited laboratory then engages two tunnels for the air velocity ranging from 2 m/s and up to 40 m/s.

Temperature and air velocity sensors have very high accuracy but still need the right calibration after every certain period of time to maintain their precise measurements. Air velocity calibration is done with a NIST traceable laser doppler velocimeter. Regular calibration helps to make sure that the process conditions maintain at an acceptable level in order to achieve the best results in all development projects.

Anemometers and air flow meters are typically calibrated using laboratory grade wind tunnels that are designed to achieve a highly uniform flow rate with variable control to perform verification testing across the range of the anemometer or air flow meter.  The uniform flowrate is determined by monitoring the wind tunnel with a repeatable, precision differential pressure sensor that has been calibrated with the wind tunnel.  The differential pressure measurements will be used to calculate the actual flowrate of the wind tunnel and then compared to the anemometer/ air flow meter being tested.  Continuous monitoring of ambient conditions such as temperature, humidity and barometric pressure are critical to achieve higher accuracy results and reduce uncertainties.

Our Air Velocity Calibration Services

Here at Calright Instruments, we are extremely proud to possess the capability of executing 17025 accredited air velocity calibration services for various instruments including wind speed indicators, barometers, hot wire and rotary anemometers. The use of a wind tunnel enables us to provide quality accredited calibrations whilst being able to reap the benefits of greater environmental control and higher test uncertainty ratio compared to other services.

At Calright Instruments, we utilize a state of the art, laboratory grade, Open Loop Wind Tunnel Calibration System to provide Anemometer/ Air Flow Meter Calibration Services for products such as hot wire anemometers, rotary vane anemometers and wind speed indicators.  The capability of this precision wind tunnel system allows us to provide our customers with quality calibrations and increased test uncertainty ratios

Our Air Velocity Calibration Products

  • Reed R1900 Air Velocity Meter, Compact Series

The Reed R1900 Air Velocity Meter features a dual LCD screen to display air velocity and temperature simultaneously. This compact air velocity meter (anemometer) measures in knots, mph, kph, m/s, and fpm. The R1900 keeps track of average and maximum readings and has a low friction rotating vane and data hold function for improved accuracy. It also comes with a low battery indicator and an auto shut off function. Each pack comes with three “AAA” batteries. This product can be shipped within 5 to 7 days.

  • Extech 407119 Heavy Duty Hot Wire CFM Thermo-Anemometer, 40 to 3346 ft/min

The Extech 407119 Heavy Duty Hot Wire CFM Thermo-Anemometerseries is a non-contact, precision column type micrometer display, air gauge combined with a customizable air probe sensor. The air probe sensor offers easy and rapid performance with highly precise dimensional analysis of the test components.

This air gauge technology allows adequate reliability and magnification in order to measure extremely small tolerances that go down to 0.1 micron; they are highly effective for quality measurements on the production floor.
