The Artificial Neutral Model AN-1 creates a momentary grounded artificial neutral to enable the fault currents measurement on ungrounded 3-phase systems.
The Artificial Neutral’s intermittently grounded via a relay activated by an internal electronic timer. This technique of periodic grounding conducts 3 functions – limits the insulation faults possibility within the instrument, enables for best discrimination of actual fault current as well as limits overheating of the instrument.
Closure time of relay’s switch selectable, Slow (2.3 seconds) or Fast (0.5 seconds), so that the ground fault clamp can be utilized on a meter with either a digital or analog display. An internal buzzer that’s also run by the relay, is activated whenever the neutral connection’s grounded. 3 LEDs, one for each of the phases, display the presence of each of the 3 phases before measurement. A 4th green LED shows that the instrument’s operating.
